Series: Your Turn

Service Type: Sunday Service

We’re diving into the meaning of speaking in tongues as described in the book of Acts, especially what happened on the day of Pentecost. The Holy Spirit came upon Jesus’ followers and gave them the ability to speak in actual languages understood by people from all over the world who were gathered in Jerusalem. This wasn’t just random babbling—it was a purposeful sign to empower believers to be witnesses and to draw people to God. We see that this expression of the Spirit is always meant to build up others with love and unity, not to make anyone look more spiritual or cause confusion. In fact, Paul later explains in Corinthians that if speaking in tongues isn’t done with love and isn’t understandable to others, it doesn’t truly benefit the church. The main point is that God’s Spirit works intentionally through us to bring people closer to Him through clear, loving communication, and we need to be careful not to misuse or misunderstand these gifts. Ultimately, God is always working to draw people back to Himself through the Spirit living in us.
