We’re kicking off the Advent season with our series “Christmas Playlist”, where we explore the theology behind some of the most beloved Christmas songs. We begin this week with “Silent Night”, a poem written in 1816 by Joseph Moore, a Catholic priest in Salzburg, Austria, and later put to music by Franz Gruber. The song is about the peaceful moment around the birth of Jesus and what that quiet, holy night meant—God stepping into our world to bring peace, joy, and light into the darkness of human life. The carol was written to reflect on that Nativity scene, focusing our hearts on the wonder of Jesus’ birth and helping us prepare not just for Christmas Day but to see God’s activity in our lives right now.
